  Erian the Able, 3rd Grand Prince of the Kingdom of Aerdy Born -253 CY, Died -181 CY Reigned -198 to -181 CY A Flan druid of the Northern Tribes in a trance 5 th  century OR Art by E ven Amundsen To understand the next phase of Erian’s reign it is necessary to discuss the mysterious Ur-Flan, for they would be at the core of the resistance to the expansion of the Kingdom of Aerdi in the north for roughly the next two centuries( 1 ). It is known that the Flan tribes of the north were related to the Flan tribes who originally had lived in the alluvial plains of the central lands of Aerdy. The latter had been conquered and displaced first by the Suloise and then the Oeridian tribes who had pushed into those lands   ahead of the Aerdi, in the early 3 rd century OR. The only written records that existed describing them were from the Suloise who the Aerdi later conquered. Ascending from his position as chancellor to Grand Prince required no real change in power as he bent to the tasks of maintaining the peace and expanding trade and establishing foreign relations. The clearest foreign threats to Aerdy were to the southwest, in the Suloise-dominated Union of Ehlissa and Zelrad, and to the northwest in the Oeridian Kingdom of Nehron which continued to cultivate relations with the Flan Kingdom of Lathu. Urnst exchanged emissaries with Aerdy but preferred to trade with the Oeridian nations closer to their borders. Erian the Able, 3 rd Grand Prince of the Kingdom of Aerdy Born -253 CY, Died -181 CY Reigned -198 to -181 CY Princess Marberga, Niece of Fasstal Landrav of the Union of Ehlissa-Zelrad Sophia Myles in Tristan and Isolde (2006) In the summer of -198 CY in the Kingdom of Aerdy, a rebellion broke out among the primarily Flannish population of the Duchy of Serumaran in what the Aerdi were now calling Ahlissa( 1 ). While the newly ennobled Duke of Serumaran, Magno of the house of Darmen was perfectly capable of putting down the rebellion, his uncle by marriage, Erian, Duke of Jalpa, uncle of Grand Prince Gilbra, and the Aerdy chancellor was not as sure of his diplomatic skills. The Duke was anxious of the possibility of antagonizing the union of Ehlissa-Zelrad to the south with which Aerdy had just a few years prior signed a peace treaty with after annexing a considerable part of the old Queendom of Ehlissa. Gilbra the Weak, 2nd Grand Prince of the Kingdom of Aerdy Born -215 CY, Died -198 CY Reigned -206 to -198 CY Gilbra, -203 CY Dean-Charles Chapman in   The White Queen The assassination of his father and older brother in Roland left Mikar’s younger son, Gilbra as the successor to the title of Grand Prince. His mother, Hildora remained a prisoner of the cabal of Rolandi nobles who had carried out the treacherous deed. By fortunate happenstance he had remained in Rel Astra instead of accompanying his parents and brother to Roland, which had been meant to show that a Garasteth of Mikar’s line still held the reins of power, even if it was a 9 year old boy. The person to who it fell to act as regent was his 47 year old uncle, Erian, who had always been Mikar’s most trusted aid and general, and had recently been created, Duke of Jalpa. Ehlissa XIV of Western Ehlissa had died in -213 CY without a clear heir other than her cousin, Ehlissa XIII of Eastern Ehlissa.   With Western Ehlissa ruled by a Council of Elders which was known for being particularly corrupt, the mood of the populace and lesser nobles of the nation soon turned sour. Into that situation stepped Arnoult, Fasstal of the Zelrad and Protector of Eastern Ehlissa.
